DAF DISCUSSIONS - ROSH HASHANAH 31

Sholem asks:

R' Yochanon lived in the period prior to the Churbon Habayis (He didn't as Vespasian to spare the Beis Hamikdosh) so why the Gemorah suggest that he lived post the Churbon?

Sholem, UK

The Kollel replies:

Sholom Rav.

According to the Gemara, R, Yochanan ben Zakai lived a hundred and twenty years, of which the last forty began thirty-eight years before the Churban - two years after his decree concerning the strip of red wool. Consequently, he died two years after the CHurban.

Wishing you a good Shabbos.

Be'Virchas Kol Tuv.
