DAF DISCUSSIONS - YOMA 2

Elie Samet asks:

Hi!

I was just learning a gemara in yoma 2a that says the avodah is used with Klei Gelalim

In tefillah we say we don't use Mei Raglayim Mipnei ha'Kavod

Why are the cohanim allowed to use something that by face value is less honorable for service in the beis hamikdash?

Elie

The Kollel replies:

The Lishkas Beis ha'Even was only preparation the week before for the Avodah and perhaps is not called disgrace.

Also, the Mishnah in Para 3:1 calls the area "Beis ha'Even" and does not mention Klei Gelalim and Adamah. Similarly, the Rambam (Hilchos Parah Adumah 2:1) writes, "All its Keilim were Klei Avanim."

These three types of Kelim are often grouped together (see Kelim 10:1) since they are equal in their Halachah that they do not have Tum'ah and are proper for their use with the Kohen.

All the best,
