BRIEF INSIGHT

BLESSING HASHEM

Avraham Avinu taught every passerby how to call out the name of Hashem. After they ate and drank they attempted to bless Avraham and he said, "Did you eat from me? You ate from the G-d of the world!" The Midrash says that the passersby refused to bless Hashem until Avraham Avinu insisted that they pay back everything that they benefited from him. When they saw the tremendous expenses that they would incur, they reluctantly blessed the name of Hashem. (Tosfos Shantz)

QUICK HALACHAH

A SUBTLE REBUKE

When one rebukes his friend it should not be done harshly so as not to embarrass him. Although one who shames his friend is not punished with Malkus it is a grave sin. Our sages teach us that one who embarrasses his friend publicly does not have a share in the world to come. Therefore one must take care not to shame his friend. Whether he is big or small, he should not call him a name that will embarrass him and he should not tell over something that will embarrass him. (Rambam Hilchos De'os 6:8)
