ROSH HASHANAH 26-30 - Dedicated Dr. Shalom Kelman of Baltimore, MD. May the Zechus of helping thousands study the Torah provide a Refu'ah Sheleimah for his father, Dr. Herbert (Isser Chayim ben Itta Fruma) Kelman.

SUMMARY

1. One may not fulfill the obligation of hearing two Teki'os with one long Teki'ah.

2. In general, a person does not hear what is being said when two people are saying the same thing at the same time.

3. However, a person does here two sounds made at the same time for a Mitzvah that he cherishes.

4. A Shofar with a crack is invalid.

5. The Mishnah discusses the case of a person who hears a Shofar that is blown inside a pit.

A BIT MORE

1. The sound has to be split with a pause in order to count as two sounds.

2. Accordingly, we do not allow two different people to read from the Torah at the same time.

3. This is why people are allowed to recite Hallel and the Megilah simultaneously. Similarly, two people may blow Shofar at the same time.

4. Even if it is glued together, it is considered two different Shofaros.

5. If he hears the sound of the Shofar, he fulfills his Mitzvah. If he hears only the Shofar's echo, he does not fulfill his Mitzvah.
