SUMMARY
1. The Gemara explains the verse, "The dead will not praise Hashem." 2. The Gemara explains the verse, "And I praise the dead who have already died." 3. Hashem showed everyone that He considered David ha'Melech to be righteous. 4. Everyone ate during the entire period of the festive inauguration of the first Beis ha'Mikdash, and a special law permitted them to eat even on Yom Kippur. 5. The thousands of Korbanos offered by Shlomo ha'Melech were less significant than one day of Torah learning of David ha'Melech.

A BIT MORE
1. It means that a person should learn Torah and do Mitzvos in this world, because once he dies and leaves this world he no longer has the opportunity to glorify Hashem in this manner (through free choice). 2. One explanation is that the merit of the righteous who have died (i.e., the Avos) can be invoked as merit for Bnei Yisrael. That merit was beneficial even at a time when Hashem was not listening to the supplication of Moshe Rabeinu. 3. During the Chanukas ha'Bayis, the gates of the Kodesh ha'Kodashim would not allow the Aron to enter until Shlomo invoked the merit of David ha'Melech. 4. When the men returned to their homes after the inauguration, they found that their wives were Tahor, and they all conceived and gave birth to boys. This was a sign that their celebrating even on Yom Kippur was entirely acceptable. 5. This is derived from the verse in Tehilim (84:11), "For one day in your courtyard is better than a thousand."
