SUMMARY
1. If the order of the Parshiyos of the Tefilin are reversed, the Tefilin are Pasul.
2. The Titura and the Ma'avarta of the Tefilin are a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.
3. The Shin of the Tefilin Shel Rosh is a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.
4. The requirement that the straps of Tefilin be black is a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.
5. The straps of Tefilin must be made from the hide of an animal. Rebbi Yehudah disagrees.
6. The requirement that the Tefilin be square is a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.
7. Rav Chisda says that if the division between the two Batim of the Shel Rosh are torn, it is valid, but if three of them are torn, it is Pasul.
8. If a portion of the strap of the Tefilin tore off, it may not be tied or sewn back on.
9. The knot in the shape of a Dalet on the Tefilin Shel Rosh, and the knot in the shape of a Yud on the Tefilin Shel Yad, is a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai.
10. Hashem showed Moshe the knot of His Tefilin.
11. The knot of the Tefilin Shel Rosh must be on the upper part of the head, not at the neck, and it must be in the back of the head and not at the side.
12. The blessing on the Tefilin is recited after it is put on but before the straps are tightened.

A BIT MORE
1. Whether the Parshiyos in the outside Batim are reversed, or the Parshiyos in the inside Batim are reversed, or the inside Parshiyos are reversed with the outside Parshiyos, the Tefilin are Pasul.
2. The Titura is the bottom part of the Tefilin which covers the Parshiyos. The Ma'avarta is the extension of the Titura through which the straps are inserted.
3. A raised Shin must be made on both sides of the Tefilin Shel Rosh.
4. However, only the outside of the straps must be black. The inside of the straps may be any color other than red.
5. According to Rebbi Yehudah, the straps of the Tefilin may be made even from strips of wool.
6. The stitches of the Tefilin must form a perfect square.
7. However, if two consecutive Batim of new Tefilin are torn, it is Pasul.
8. The straps may not be sewn on, even if the stitches are on the inside of the strap.
9. The "beauty" of the Tefilin (the letters, or the smooth side which must be black) must face outwards.
10. Hashem wears Tefilin. Therefore, the Tefilin Shel Rosh of a Yisrael inspires fear in the Nochrim.
11. The Tefilin must be on the upper part of the head to symbolize that Yisrael will rise up and not fall. The Tefilin must be directly opposite the front of the head to symbolize that Yisrael will be in the front and not in the back.
12. The blessing on a Mitzvah must be recited immediately before the performance of the Mitzvah. The Mitzvah of Tefilin is not completed until the straps are tightened.
