SUMMARY
1. There is a dispute about one who contributes a loaf to the Eruv but does not allow anyone to eat it. 2. Shmuel: The person in whose house the Eruv rests does not have to contribute food to the Eruv. 3. The Mishnah discusses the case of a person who was traveling and said at the onset of Shabbos that his "place of Shabbos residence" should be under a certain tree. 4. There is a dispute about what the Mishnah means when it says that the person's words do not take effect when he says "under it" (see #3). 5. There is a dispute between Rebbi Meir and Rebbi Yehudah about the primary manner in which an Eruv Techumin is made.

A BIT MORE
1. Shmuel: The Eruv is not valid. An Eruv is called such because it is a "mixture" of the food of all the members of the group, which means that it belongs to everyone in the Chatzer. Rebbi Chanina: The Eruv is still valid. 2. The purpose of the Eruv is to make all of the residents of the Chatzer considered to be residing in one house. The owner of the house is already residing in the house, and therefore he does not have to contribute any food to the Eruv. 3. The tree is within 2,000 Amos from where he is presently located. The Mishnah states that if he said, "My residence should be under it (the tree)," his words do not take effect, but if he said, "My residence is at its trunk," his words take effect (see below). 4. Rav: He may not walk even to the tree, and he has only four Amos from where he is. Since he did not intend to acquire a valid place of Shabbos residence, he has no 2,000-Amah area but only four Amos. Shmuel: His words are effective to allow him to go to the tree, but not effective to allow him to go to his house which is 2,000 Amos away from the tree (see Rashi at length). 5. Rebbi Meir understands that although the primary manner in which an Eruv Techumin is made is with bread, the Chachamim were lenient and allowed a poor person (or a rich person who is traveling) to make an Eruv Techumin "with his feet" (by merely walking to the place where he intends to establish his place of Shabbos residence). Rebbi Yehudah understands that the primary manner in which an Eruv Techumin is made is "with one's feet" (i.e. his present place of residence), and that the Chachamim were lenient and allowed even a rich person to make an Eruv Techumin by placing bread in an area other than where he is physically located at the arrival of Shabbos.
