SUMMARY
A Chasan and Kalah who make financial commitments to each other without a Kinyan are obligated to pay. (1)
If one writes to a Kohen, "I am obligated to give you five Sela'im," he must give the money, but his does not thereby become redeemed. (2)
Ula: Min ha'Torah, when one gives to a Kohen a Shtar that obligates him to pay five Sela'im, the son is redeemed, but the Rabanan voided the Pidyon. (3)
Rebbi Yishmael: If a cosigner signed after the signatures of the witnesses, the lender may collect only from the Bnei Chorin of the cosigner. Ben Nanas: The lender may not collect from the cosigner at all, because the lender did not rely on the consignor when he lent the money.
If one promised money in order to stop an aggressor from choking his friend, he is not obligated to give the money.
When a Chasan and Kalah make financial commitments to each other without a Kinyan, the money may not be collected from Meshubadim.
The Amora'im disagree about whether a Shtar Kidushin written without the knowledge of the woman is valid.
If a husband commits to feed the daughter of his wife for five years and he made a Kinyan, she may collect from Meshubadim.
Even if a father commits himself with a Kinyan to feed his daughters, they may not collect from Meshubadim, because they receive Mezonos due to a Tenai Beis Din. (4)
A daughter should be raised by the mother, not by the family of the father.
A BIT MORE
1. Since they committed themselves in front of witnesses, it is regarded as a binding commitment.
2. Although his son is not redeemed, he is obligated to give the Pidyon money to that Kohen. He may not give it to a different Kohen.
3. The Rabanan voided the Pidyon because of a Gezeirah that one might redeem his son with a Shtar Chov for a debt he is owed by his friend, which is not a valid Pidyon.
4. Since they receive Mezonos due to a Tenai Beis Din, there is a concern that they already received payment.

A SHTAR FOR PIDYON HA'BEN
If one writes to a Kohen, "I am obligated to give you five Sela'im," he must give the money, but his son does not thereby become redeemed. Tosfos says that he is obligating himself with this Shtar to give five Sela'im. According to Rashi, the Shtar does not obligate him, but it is an admission that he is Chayav five Sela'im. (Sefer Hafla'ah)
QUICK HALACHAH
PIDYON HA'BEN
If one writes to a Kohen, "I am obligated to give you five Sela'im for the Pidyon ha'Ben," he is obligated to give it, but his son does not thereby become redeemed. If one promises to a Kohen that he will give him the money of his Pidyon ha'Ben, he may not retract, but if he does retract it is a valid retraction.
