SUMMARY
1. One may soak something in hot water on Shabbos if it was cooked before Shabbos.
2. The Mishnah lists two exceptions to this rule (#1).
3. Rebbi Chiya bar Aba: The Yamim Tovim are especially appreciated by poor people who normally work very hard and have a chance to rest and dine.
4. Rebbi Yochanan explains the verse, "Say to wisdom: You are my sister."
5. Nice clothes will make people take you seriously.

A BIT MORE
1. If it was not cooked before Shabbos, it may be washed with hot water but not immersed in hot water.
2. Old salted fish, and a certain type of salty fish that is eaten by washing it first in hot water, may not even be washed on Shabbos, since washing them renders them edible and is considered like cooking them.
3. The Gemara explains that this is why the Yamim Tovim in Bavel were very festive. Since they generally were poor working people who did not usually have a lot of good food or time to rest, they especially enjoyed the Yamim Tovim.
4. He explains that this verse means that one should state a Torah teaching only if it is as clear to him as the prohibition against marrying one's sister.
5. The Gemara notes that the Torah scholars from Bavel who moved to Eretz Yisrael wore special clothes to make an important impression. Since the people in Eretz Yisrael were not acquainted with the Chachamim from Bavel, the Chachamim wore dignified clothing so that people would take them seriously.
