A BIT MORE

1. After Rav came to Bavel many more people settled there because of the existence of his Yeshivah and therefore it was forbidden to raise small animals because of the possibility that they will stray into people's fields.

2. A black cat that was born from a white cat that was born from a white cat is also forbidden, however a black cat that was born from a white cat that was born from a black cat is a Safek.

3. Even though it is forbidden d'Rabanan to ask a non-Jew to do a Melachah for you on Shabbos in this case the Rabanan permit it for the sake of settling Eretz Yisrael.

BRIEF INSIGHT

A NON-JEW ON SHABBOS

Someone who buys a house from a non-Jew in Eretz Yisrael may have a Shtar written by a non-Jew even on Shabbos; even though it is forbidden mid'Rabanan to ask a non-Jew to do a Melachah for you on Shabbos in this case the Rabanan permit it for the sake of settling Eretz Yisrael. Tosfos says that it is permitted to ask a non-Jew to do a Melachah that is forbidden Min ha'Torah only for the sake of the Mitzvah of settling Eretz Yisrael and not for any other Mitzvah. Even for the Mitzvah of Milah which supersedes Shabbos it is not permitted to ask a non-Jew to do a Melachah for you if that Melachah is not permitted for a Yisrael to do. However it is permitted to ask a non-Jew to do a Melachah for you that is forbidden d'Rabanan if it is for the sake of a Mitzvah.

QUICK HALACHAH

FOREIGN KSAV

It is permitted to buy a house from a non-Jew in Eretz Yisrael on Shabbos and have the Shtar written and signed by a non-Jewish court. The Rema says that the Shtar may be written and signed only with a non-Jewish writing which is only forbidden d'Rabanan and because of the Mitzvah of settling Eretz Yisrael it is permitted. (Shulchan Aruch OC 306:11)

Only the Or Zaru'a holds that the writing on Shabbos in a language other than Lashon ha'Kodesh is only forbidden d'Rabanan, however all of the other Poskim disagree and they hold that any type of writing is forbidden Min ha'Torah and even so the Rabanan permit an Isur d'Oraisa for the purpose of settling Eretz Yisrael.
