YOMA 62 (8 Shevat) - Dedicated by Elliot and Lori Linzer in honor of
 
Gila Linzer's Bat Mitzvah

SUMMARY

1. The Gemara discusses what happens when one loses his Korban Pesach and finds it after he has dedicated a new one.
 
2. The two goats offered on Yom Kippur must be identical.
 
3. The Mishnah discusses what happens if one of the goats dies before the lottery.
 
4. The Mishnah discusses what happens if one of the goats dies after the lottery.
 
5. The Gemara discusses the law regarding a Kohen who offered the two goats outside the Beis ha'Mikdash.

A BIT MORE

1. Chachamim: He may offer either one. Rebbi Yosi: It is a Mitzvah to offer the first one, unless the second one is of better quality.
 
2. They must be identical in appearance, height, and value, and they must be taken to be sacrificed at the same time.
 
3. If it dies before the lottery, another goat should be purchased.
 
4. Tana Kama: If it dies afterwards, another pair is bought and the remaining goat from the original pair is sent out to pasture until it receives a blemish, and is then redeemed. Rebbi Yehudah: The remaining goat is put to death.
 
5. If the lottery had not yet been, he is liable for offering both of them. If the lottery had already been done, he is liable only for offering the one that is "la'Hashem," as the other one is not supposed to be offered in the Beis ha'Mikdash.
