SHE'ZAR KAREV GABEI MIZBE'ACH- [would it enter your mind] that a non-Kohen may approach the Mizbe'ach [to place salt upon the Minchah]?

DI'CHESIVA BEI BRIS K'MAN D'SANA BEI KERA DAMYA- since it is written with regard to it (the placing of salt) mention of "covenant," it is as if the verse repeats itself regarding this matter

MINCHAH MEYUCHEDES SHE'ACHERIM BA'IN CHOVAH LAH- just as the Minchah is unique in that other things come for it as an obligation (it must be burned on wood), [so, too, all Korbanos that require other things must be salted]

4)[line 25]ומנחת כהן משיחU'MINCHAS KOHEN MASHI'ACH

See Background to Menachos 7:35

5)[line 31]כלל ופרטKLAL U'FRAT U'CHLAL

(a)In the Introduction to the Sifra (the Halachic Midrash to Vayikra), Rebbi Yishmael, who is Doresh Kelalei and Peratei (see Background to Shevuos 26:5), lists thirteen methods that Chazal use for extracting the Halachah from the verses of the Torah. One of them is Kelal u'Ferat u'Chelal Iy Atah Dan Ela k'Ein ha'Perat.

(b)When a Klal (general term) is followed by a Prat (specification), which is followed in turn by another Klal, then everything belonging to the general category that is similar to the Prat is included. Anything that is not in the general category of the limiting Prat is not included.

LEVONAH HA'BA'AH BI'VEZICHIN D'SHARYA LECHEM- the Levonah that comes in the bowls placed on the Shulchan (see Background to Menachos 7:21) [the burning of which] permits the Lechem ha'Panim [to be eaten] (see Background to Menachos 2:1:II:e:3)

ISHIM KEMOSAH BA'CHUTZ KEMOSAH- they are burned in fire like the Kometz of a Minchah, and their service is performed outside the Azarah like a Minchah

20b----------------------------------------20b

8)[line 2]הנך נפישיןHANACH NEFISHAN- these (the similarities between limbs and Minchah) are more numerous (than the similarities between blood and Minchah)

9)[line 7]שני גזריןSHENEI GEZIRIN (SHENEI GIZREI ETZIM)

The Shenei Gizrei Etzim are two smooth blocks of wood that are one Amah by one Amah, and are as thick as the block used to level a heaping Se'ah (Zevachim 62b). Part of the service of the Korban Tamid includes adding these blocks as fuel for the fire on the Mizbe'ach.

10)[line 9]הגשהHAGASHAH

When a Korban Minchah (flour offering) is offered, a Kohen must take the utensil containing the Minchah and touch it to the southwest corner of the Mizbe'ach ha'Chitzon.

11)[line 11]סמי מיכןSAMI MI'KAN- remove from here (the Beraisa)
