(a)The King of Ashur brought the people of Kusa to Eretz Yisrael and made them settle in the Shomron. They converted to Judaism after they found themselves under attack from lions. The Chachamim disagree as to whether their conversion was honest and valid (Geirei Emes) or not (Geirei Arayos).
(b)After the times of the Mishnah, the Kusim were found worshipping an image of a dove and the Chachamim gave them the status of Nochrim. (According to most Rishonim, this means that they decided to treat them like Nochrim l'Chumra, even if they were Geirei Emes. According to the RAMBAM (Peirush ha'Mishnayos), however, this means that they decided that their conversion was not sincere and deemed them Nochrim (Geirei Arayos) for all Halachic matters.)
(c)The name of this Perek was changed by the censors from the word ha'Nochrim or the like, and the Halachos discussed in it do not only apply to the Kusim.

Women are exempt from these Mitzvos, with the exception of Kidush on Friday night, Matzah on Pesach night, the Korban Pesach, Hakhel, and Simchah on Pesach, Shavuos, and Sukos. (a)An Erech (endowment valuation) refers to a special form of vow. If a person declares, "Erech Ploni Alai" ("I accept upon myself to give the endowment value of so-and-so [to Hekdesh]"), he must give the specific value that the Torah designates for the person's gender and age group as stated in Vayikra 27:1-8. It makes no difference at all whether the person is healthy or sick, strong or weak.
(b)If one wishes to pledge the value of an individual — whether his own or that of someone else:
1.For ages 1 month to 5 years - the Erech for males is 5 Shekalim and for females is 3 Shekalim
2.For ages 5 years to 20 years - the Erech for males is 20 Shekalim and for females is 10 Shekalim
3.For ages 20 yrs. to 60 years - the Erech for males is 50 Shekalim and for females is 30 Shekalim
4.For ages 60 years and older - the Erech for males is 15 Shekalim and for females is 10 Shekalim

(a)If someone says "I am a Nazir forever" or "I am a Nazir all the days of my life," he becomes a Nezir Olam and is a Nazir until the end of his life. Like a normal Nazir, he is not allowed to cut his hair, to become Tamei by touching or being in the same room as a corpse, or to consume any products of the grapevine.
(b)A Nezir Olam differs from a normal Nazir in that he may cut off his hair at the end of every twelve months (or 30 days or 7 days, according to some Tana'im, Nazir 4b) when his hair becomes heavy. (According to TOSFOS (ibid.) he does not shave off his hair completely at this time.) On the day that he cuts his hair, he brings the three Korbanos that a normal Nazir brings at the completion of the Nezirus period; a Chatas, an Olah, and a Shelamim (see Background to Nazir 60:3a). If he becomes Tamei, he brings a Korban Tum'ah, shaves his hair, and starts his Nezirus anew (just like any Nazir who becomes Tamei — see Background to Nazir 28:3 (and RAMBAM Nezirus 3:12)).
