(Mishnah): If a person permitted his shaliach to betroth his daughter and the father himself accepted Kidushin for her - if his came first, his acceptance of Kidushin is valid; if the shaliach's acceptance was first, his acceptance is valid; if it is unknown, both grooms must give a get. If they wish, one could give her a get and the other can perform nisuin with her.

Similarly, if a woman permitted her shaliach to accept betrothal for her and she went herself and accepted Kidushin for herself - if her's came first, her acceptance of Kidushin is valid; if the shaliach's acceptance was first, his acceptance is valid; if it is unknown, both grooms must give a get. If they wish, one could give her a get and the other can perform nisuin with her.

(Gemara - question): Does this Mishnah not disagree with R. Yochanan who said that a person can cancel his shaliach with his words? (The Mishnah implied that only through his Kidushin can he cancel the shaliach.)

Answer: (We are concerned for the betrothal of the shaliach) because of the stringency of forbidden relationships, (so we require an action to cancel the shaliach).
