(a)Forty-five years had elapsed since the episode with the Spies. As a reward for the role that Kalev ben Yefunah had played in that incident, combined with the fact that he had made his own way to pray in Chevron at the Me'aras ha'Machpelah, HaSh-m promised him Chevron as a special portion in Eretz Yisrael.
(b)That is what Kalev now reminded Yehoshua. Without hesitation, Yehoshua complied with Kalev's request and gave him Chevron.
