(Mishnah): On Yom Kipur is forbidden eating, drinking, bathing, Sichah (anointing), wearing shoes and Bi'ah;

A king and a bride may wash their faces, and one who gave birth may wear shoes. R. Eliezer says so. Chachamim forbid.

(Gemara) Question: One is Chayav Kares [for eating and drinking], and you say so? ("It is forbidden'' connotes like the other Isurim listed, which have no Kares!)

Answer (R. Heila): It is needed to teach about less than the Shi'ur [to be Chayav Kares].

Suggestion: "Te'anu Es Nafshoseichem'' - perhaps one should sit in the sun or in the cold in order to be pained!

Also, "Te'anu Es Nafshoseichem'' is something that can cause the loss of the Nefesh. What is this? It is [not] eating and drinking.

R. Yishmael says, it says here Te'anu Es Nafshoseichem, and it says there "va'Y'ancha va'Yar'ivecha'' - just like the Inuy there is Inuy of hunger, also the Inuy here is Inuy of hunger.

Why are six matters [forbidden in our Mishnah]? They correspond to six Inuyim said in the Parshah (i.e. regarding Yom Kipur).

Question: There are only five (two in Acharei Mos, and three in Emor)!
