(Mishnah): We give a virgin 12 months to prepare herself [for Chupah] from when the husband asks to make Nisu'in. Just like we give time to her, he is given time (from when she asks). We give to a widow 30 days;

If the time came and they were not married, he must feed her. She may eat Terumah (if he is a Kohen);

R. Tarfon says, he may give to her only Terumah;

R. Akiva says, he gives half Chulin (regular food, for her to eat when she is Temei'ah) and half Terumah.

(Gemara - Beraisa): A Bogeres, it is as if he asked her [to make Nisu'in]. We give to her 12 months [even if he did not ask].

(R. Heila): We give to [one who becomes] Bogeres 12 months, and we give so to her for Kidushin [another] 30 days (just like even a widow gets 30 days, even without Bagrus).

Question: Our Mishnah teaches that we give to a Besulah 12 months, and you say so?!

Answer (R. Avin citing R. Heila): If 12 months passed after Bagrus [and she accepted Kidushin], we give so to her for Kidushin 30 days (like a widow).

If she delayed 12 months [in Eirusin] in front of the first Arus [and he died,], and the second [Arus] said 'you already prepared [ornaments for Nisu'in], she can say 'the second is dearer to me than the first' (what I prepared is not enough for him).

Note: I did not find anyone discuss whether she can say so about a Yavam. The REMA (EH 166:2) rules that a Yevamah needs Chupah. The GRA (166:7) asks that Yevamos 29b connotes oppositely, but perhaps mid'Rabanan she needs Chupah. In any case, perhaps the custom is to do Chupah, and she can demand 12 months (PF).

If he is a widower and she is a Besulah, and he wants to have Nisu'in [after 30 days], she can say 'he is dearer to me than a bachelor.'

If he is a bachelor and she is a widow, and she wants to have Nisu'in [after 30 days], he can say 'she is dearer to me than a Besulah.'

If she is a Ketanah and wants to mature (before Nisu'in), we heed her.

(Mishnah): If the time came and they were not married, he must feed her. She may eat Terumah.

If her husband died [and she fell to Yibum], he must feed her, and she may eat Terumah.

(Shmuel, the brother of R. Berachiyah): This is if the time finished on Wednesday (the proper day for a Besulah to marry).

Question: If the time finished on Tuesday or Thursday [what is the law]?

Answer (R. Chama bar Ukva citing R. Yosi bei R. Chaninah, and Levi): It is as if Chachamim captured her [and do not allow her to marry].

(R. Yehoshua ben Levi): If the impediment [to Nisu'in] is due to him, he feeds her.
