*********************GIRSA SECTION*********************
We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach and the marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is devoted to any other important corrections that Acharonim have pointed out in the Gemara, Rashi and Tosfos.
[1] Rashi 18b DH Gigis ד"ה גיגית:
The words "sheha'Shechar b'Socho, v'Iy Efshar" שהשכר בתוכו ואי אפשר
should be "sheha'Shechar b'Socho Kol ha'Shabbos, v'Iy Efshar" שהשכר בתוכו כל השבת ואי אפשר
(The words Kol ha'Shabbos which appear later in Rashi should be removed.)

The Mechilta, the Halachic Midrash to Sefer Shemos, teaches that just as a person must refrain from doing Melachah on Shabbos, he must prevent any of his utensils from doing Melachah on Shabbos. The Midrash derives this Halachah from the verse in Shemos 23:13. Any utensil which will be performing a Melachah on Shabbos must be rendered Hefker (ownerless) before Shabbos begins. This opinion is attributed to Beis Shamai in the conclusion of the Sugya here, and is therefore not l'Halachah.
