Radak: Every gathering of living beings is called a nation. It says about ants "Am Lo Az", and about hares "Am Lo Atzum" (Mishlei 30:25-26).

Malbim: The verse depicts locusts as a nation, for they join together like a nation.

What do we learn from "Atzum v'Ein Mispar"?

Malbim: The quality of its strength is Atzum (awesome), and its number is uncountable.

What do we learn from "Shinav Shinei Arye"?

Radak: It is as if it has teeth like a lion.

Malbim: An Arye's strength is in its Shinayim; a Lavi's strength is in its Mesal'os - they can destroy everything!

What are "Mesal'os"?

Rashi: They are big teeth with which it chews. Radak - Lavi is bigger than an Arye 1 .

Radak: Yonasan translated Lavi 'bar Aryevan' (i.e. it is smaller than Arye). "U'Vnei Lavi Yisparadu" (Iyov 4:11) implies that Lavi is not small (it is old enough to have children).
