Rashi #1: Beten Imi refers to the land, from which man was created.
Rashi #2: All people return to the earth, from where man was created. There was no need to mention it.
Ibn Ezra: It refers to the grave.
What is the connection of the matters mentioned in this verse?
Devar Eliyahu: They are four reasons not to be pained over monetary loss. (a) I was born without property. (b) I will return to the grave without property. (c) Hashem gave my property to me - it is not from my power. (d) The same One who gave it, He took it!
Malbim: (a) If he lost something inseparable from him, like a limb of his body, even though Hashem created it, one could consider it unjust if it was taken without reason. Monetary acquisitions are not intrinsic to man - I was born without them, and I will return to the land without them! (b) The acquisitions were not due to my power - Hashem gave them with Midas ha'Rachamim, and surely He took them to atone for me 1 , and keep me alive and healthy. Therefore, I bless on the bad, like on the good.
Iyov had no sin to atone for, like he says below! Perhaps initially he assumed that he must have some sin. After searching and not finding any, and seeing that the losses did not preserve his health, he concluded that he had no sin. (PF)
