What are "Arei ha'Rechev"?

Radak: It is where they raised horses.

Radak (Melachim I, 10:26): It is where they stationed chariots and horses. 'Rashi' ? they are called so because the king's Rochevim (riders) are there.

Here it says that he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, and below (9:25) it says 4,000 stables and 12,000 horsemen! And in Melachim I, 5:6 it says that he had 40,000 stables, and afterwards he added chariots and horsemen, and he had [only] 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen (10:26)!

Rashi and Mahari Kara (Melachim I, 10:26) cite our verse to say 1,700. Some old texts of Divrei ha'Yamim say so. (PF)
