What is the meaning of "v'Amad Al Kano Ma'avir Nogesh Hadar Malchus"?
Rashi: Matisyahu ben Yochanan will be strengthened on his base, in Har ha'Moda'is. He removes Greek oppressors from Yisrael. He is the beauty of Malchus Yisrael. He will be an officer and Gibor, and all his seed after him ? Bnei ha'Chashmona'im.
Ibn Ezra: His Malchus will be beautiful, but he will pass, and the new king will be opposite ? he will be disgraceful.
Malbim: After Antiyochus ha'Gadol, his son Salikus Pahalapatar ruled. He did not make any war or anything noteworthy ? he only passed in cities to collect tax that he needed to pay to Romi every year (refer to 11:18:3:2). This was the entire glory of his kingship!
What do we learn from "uv'Yamim Achadim Yishaver"?
Rashi: The Chashmona'im's kingship will be broken soon 1 .
Malbim: He ruled only 12 years. His servants conspired against him.
Their kingship lasted 103 years (Avodah Zarah 9a), longer than Malchus Bavel, Madai and Paras. Why is this called "a few days"? (PF)
Why does it say "v'Lo v'Apayim v'Lo v'Milchamah"?
Rashi: Their kingdom will not be broken via another nation's anger, or via war, rather, amidst them. Aristoblus and Hurkenus will feud over the kingship.
Malbim: His kingship will not be broken via internal rebellion 1 or war with an external enemy. Rather, he was poisoned.
Malbim explained that his servants conspired against him! This is not considered rebellion, for a small number of servants conspired. (PF)
