What is the significance of Yom Hashem being close?

Malbim: There is an advantage and disadvantage if it is close, and similarly if it is far. If it is close, there is sudden fright in their hearts; the advantage is, are more vigorous to prepare for war. If the day is far, they are not so afraid, but they slacken from preparing needs of war, for they rely on the fact that there is much time. However, in this case, there are both disadvantages. There is sudden fright, because it is close; also refer to 13:6:4:3.

What is "k'Shod mi'Shakai Yavo"?

Rashi: Like a day of plundering from Hashem, will come.

Radak 1 : Like plundering that comes from someone strong, that there is no way to save. Similarly, "k'Kol Shakai" (Yechezkel 1:24) is like a strong voice.

Malbim: The plundering will be from Shakai, who has all ability; there is no strategy or strength against Him!
