What is "Shor Avus"?

1.

Rashi: They force it to eat Bal Korcho (against its will), to fatten it.

2)

Why is a meal of vegetables with love better than a fattened ox with hatred?

1.

Rashi #1: This is a Mashal - a small Kemitzah from an Oni's [Minchah] is dearer than a Rasha's cow for a Chatas.

2.

Rashi #2: It is better to give to an Oni a meal of vegetables, and there is love (he shows a happy face) than to feed to him fatty meat and shows an angry face.

3.

R. Yonah: This is a Mashal from people's nature. They prefer a little amidst company that is pleasant to them, than delicacies amidst people that they hate. You should learn from this. All the more so you should be satisfied with a little with love of Hashem and fear of Him - His love is better than the company of all lovers - and do not desire Resha'im's serenity, for Hashem hates them.

4.

Malbim: If there is love at the meal, the food is sweet. Hatred makes a fattened ox bitter. The external happiness and imagined pleasure is not primary, rather, the inner calmness, love and Bitachon in Hashem. In Him, his Nefesh gets pleasure.
