How will we reconcile "Ish L'Fi Ochlo," with "Omer la'Gulgoles"?
R. Bachye (citing the Mechilta): Let no-one think that Nachshon ben Aminadav and all the string men will come and take a lot and the poor among Yisrael, only a little. Therefore Moshe said "Ish L'fi Ochlo" ? no-one will tke more and no'one less than his allotted porton ? 'an Omer per person'.
What is the significance of an Omer?
R. Bachye: With reference to 16:36:1:1 ? it is the ideal Shi'ur that a person should eat to be healthy; less than that, he is undernourished, more, is considered glutonny
"Mispar Nafshoseihem Ish la'asher be'Ohalo Tikachu". Who is this referring to?
Rashi, Targum Onkelos and TArgum Yonasan: It refers to all the people in his tent (house):
R. Bachye (citing R. Chananel): "la'asher be'Ohalo" refers to his wife 1 and "Mispar Nafshoseihem", to the small children in his tent ? to teach us that a man is obligated to sustain his wife and small children. 2 3
R. Chhnanel ibid.: Like we find in Vayeira Breishis, 18:9 and in Tehilim 45:14.
According to the Pasuk, 'small children' would appear to cover all children who are living at home, since that is for whom each mn collected the Manna.
