What is the meaning of "l'Chelek Yagid Re'im"?

Rashi: Everyone flatters his friend.

Malbim: Everyone, when his time to die comes, does not think about the Ru'ach's life in Olam ha'Neshamos, or about the Neshamah at all. He only prepares to divide the property that he gathered in this world. In his command, he tells his friends and lovers who will inherit him. No one remembers life of the Neshamah in order to prepare provisions for it in the eternal world.

What is the connection of the two parts of the verse?
1.
Rashi: Because everyone flatters his friend, the eyes of their sons weary.
2.
Malbim: One who has sons, their eyes long for their father to die, in order to inherit his property.
