Rashi (59-60): Our verse teaches what happened to them (they could not tell their lineage). The coming verse names their families and gives their number 1 .
What do we learn from "Im Yisrael Hem"?
Rashi (from Kidushin 70a): They lost their lineage, and did not know whether or not they are Yisraelim.
Ibn Ezra: They were Asufim, [abandoned babies] gathered from the market. They did not know their parents (Malbim - in a place where most residents are Goyim. They could not tell also their family, and [if they were Yisraelim] if they are Kesherim or Mamzerim. )
