Why did they flee to the Midbar?

Malbim: Yisrael, who fled and now returned to fight them, were in the north. The first ambush came from the west, and the second ambush burned the city from the south. The only place to flee was east, to the Midbar.

What is the meaning of "veha'Milchamah Hidbikas'hu"?

Radak: The soldiers caught them.

Kli Yakar (Lani'ado): Even though "va'Yifnu" (Binyamin distanced themselves, and emptied the place in front of Yisrael), the war, i.e. arrows and catapults, caught them.

What is the meaning of "va'Asher mehe'Arim Mashchisim Oso b'Socho"?

Radak citing Targum Yonasan 1 : The ambush who entered Giv'ah killed the people in Giv'ah and other cities in Binyamin.

Mahari Kara: If a Ben Binyamin went to a city of Yisrael, they killed him in the city.

3.

Kli Yakar (Lani'ado): People who fled to the side of the cities, Yisrael killed them. They were inside (Yisrael surrounded them).

4.

Malbim: Camps of Yisrael that came out of the cities entered Binyamin's camp in the middle, and destroyed it.
