QUESTIONS ON RASHI

2)

Rashi writes: "Migdanos - he gave fruits" to her brother and mother. Why did he not give [more esteemed] gifts, as is the custom, and like he gave to Rivkah?

1.

Malbim: 'The matter was from HaSh-m,' and did not depend on her family. The gifts to Rivkah were in place of Kidushin.

2.

Ha'amek Davar: The verse hints that the Chasan must make the nuptial feast, 1 and one who marries a girl on condition to supply her clothing, he gives it while she is in her father's house, before entering her husband's house (Kesuvos 67a).

1

Ha'amek Davar: This is like the Yerushalmi, which says that this was like Nisu'in. The She'iltos holds that the Bavli holds that it was merely Kidushin. If so, this shows that the Chasan must make Seudas Eirusin.
