1)

What is the grammatical form of "ha'Mirsha'as"?

1.

Radak: It is an adjective; the same applies to "he'Arim ha'Mivdalos" (Yehoshua 16:9). There is a Chirik under the Mem.

2)

Why does the verse need to mention the evil of Asalyah?

1.

'Rashi', Radak: (a) The Bayis was only 125 years old from when it was finished. Had she and 1 her sons not breached it, it would have been intact. There were more than 200 years from Yo'ash until Yoshiyah, and there was no need to strengthen the Bayis until Yoshiyah! (This is from Seder Olam 24.) Due to her evil, so soon [after its completion] it must be strengthened so much. (b) This is why a collection must be taken. There is no money in Otzros Beis Hashem, for she used all 2 of it for the Ba'alim.

2.

Malbim: People gave half-Shekalim in previous years, but Asalyah used the money for Ba'alim, so it is as if they did not give. Yo'ash said that they should give now to compensate for previous years' money that was used improperly 3 .

1

The verse says "Baneha Partzu"; 'Rashi' and Radak explain as if it says u'Vaneha (she and her sons).

2

Refer to 24:7:4:1.

3

This does not explain why it mentions breaching the Mikdash! Presumably, Malbim explains that like 'Rashi' and Radak (refer to 24:7:2:1). (PF)

3)

What sons did she have? She killed all seed of the kingship, except for Yo'ash!

1.

Radak: These were sons from another man, not from the king.

QUESTIONS ON RASHI

4)

Rashi writes that Asalyah used all the money in Otzros Beis Hashem for the Ba'alim. It says in Melachim II, 12:19 that Yo'ash took the Kodshim that Yehoshafat and Yehoram were Makdish!

1.

Radak: She used most of it for the Ba'alim. There was a remnant; Yo'ash did not want to use it to fix the Bayis, lest the Otzar be left empty. Also "v'Chol Tuv Adonav b'Yado" (Bereishis 24:10) means most 1 .

Bereishis Rabah (59:11) and Sanhedrin 91a imply that Avraham gave everything to Yitzchak via a document! Refer to Bereishis 24:10:2:1, 25:5:1:2,4. "Eved Avraham Anochi" (24:34) implies that Avraham still owned Eliezer. However, perhaps he initially said so because they knew only Avraham, but not Yitzchak. Later, he said about Yitzchak "Hu Adoni" (24:65). (PF)
