Malbim: Just like eating too much honey damages, so excessive investigation of honor is not honor. One who excessively investigates honor of Tzadikim, he will not attain honor. This is one of the secrets of Hashgachah, that a Tzadik falls in front of a Rasha - "Kevod Elokim Hester Davar" (2). Even though you will see Tzadikim's honor profaned in the hand of a Rasha, honor in this world is not the real honor.
