What is "Kayitz"?

1.

Rashi: It is when they spread figs in the sun to dry them, to make Ketzi'os (dried figs) - "veha'Lechem veha'Kayitz Le'echol ha'Ne'arim" (Shmuel II, 16:2).

What is the comparison to snow in Kayitz and rain at the harvest time?

1.

Malbim: Snow and rain both help Zera'im and grain. Snow makes the ground beget, and rain makes it sprout (Yeshayah 55:10). Even so, they are not good in Kayitz and harvest time, when there are no seeds. Rain harms the land in harvest time, which is before Kayitz. It makes the finished grain spoil. Snow harms in Kayitz - then heat of the sun is needed to dry the figs. If snow comes early - if should be after the rain, which is after the Kayitz. In the wrong time, it ruins. So honor is improper for a Kesil. A Chacham plowed and seeded the seed of Chachmah on the field of his Nefesh. For him, honor helps to take out the Divine crops and make them sprout. The honor arouses the powers of his Nefesh to carry out their potential. A Kesil did not seed at all. For him, honor ruins. He will persist in his folly.
