1)

What is the significance of bathing and anointing?

1.

Rashi, from Rus Rabah 5:12: Cleanse yourself from the filth of your idolatry 1 . Anoint yourself with Mitzvos and Tzedakos.

1

Ayeles ha'Shachar (Shabbos 113b): I.e. immerse to convert. (Why did she delay until now?! (PPPF)

2)

Do we infer from "put on your clothing" that before this, she was naked?!

1.

Rashi, from Shabbos 113b: No. "Simlosayich" refers to Shabbos clothing. Yerushalmi Pe'ah 8:7 - this is the source that one must have two cloaks - one for weekdays, and one for Shabbos. Malbim - Simlah implies dear clothing of Shabbos and Yom Tov.

3)

Why did she not tell her when to put on her [Shabbos] clothing?

1.

Malbim: She knew that Rus would understand by herself. She will put them on her shoulder, but not wear them until she is in the granary (refer to 3:6:1:1).

4)

Why does it say "v'Yaradet"?

1.

Torah Temimah citing Rus Rabah 5:12: This teaches that we make a granary in the low place in the city.

5)

Why is it written "v'Yaradti"? Will Na'ami go with her?

1.

Rashi, from Yerushalmi Pe'ah 8:7: No - my merit will go down with you.

6)

Who is the "Ish"?

1.

Rashi: It is Bo'az.

2.

Malbim: Any other worker 1 . (Go stealthily, lest they see you. They will assume that you went home.)

1

The verse ends "Ad Kaloso Le'echol v'Lishtos" - i.e., after that, you will be known to him, i.e. Bo'az! Perhaps Malbim explains it also to include other workers. Really, she will not make herself known until after he lies down! (PF)
