When is it proper to love and to hate?
Rashi: "V'Ahevecha [u'Verachecha v'Hirbecha]" (Devarim 7:13); "Kol Ra'asam ba'Gilgal Ki Sham 1 Sineisim" (Hoshe'a 9:15).
Ibn Ezra: Also these depend on the time. Metzudas David - there are times when it is proper to hate the same matter that earlier he loved.
This is the verse; surely, 'Al Ken' in Rashi is a printing mistake. (PF)
What is the significance of "Es Milchamah v'Es Shalom"?
Metzudas David: Sometimes one wants to make war with his enemy, and sometimes he wants oppositely, to make Shalom with his enemy.
Lev Eliyahu (Shemos p.88, citing the Vilna Gaon): Milchamah is war against Hashem, e.g. people desecrate Shabbos as if it is Hefker. This is the 27th of the 28 Zemanim; it already began.
