What do we learn from "Ach Lo v'Iy Yishlach Yad"?

1.

Rashi: In destruction, the judge would send his hand, like to Iy ha'Sadeh (ruins in the field).

2.

Ibn Ezra: This is like "Me'iy Mapalah" (lowly places), i.e. the grave. No one will send his hand to help him in the grave.

3.

Malbim: When he is buried, he is assured to be free from death and its afflictions. He will not die again!

2)

What is "b'Fido"?

1.

Rashi: It is breakage.

3)

Why does it say "Lahen Shu'a"?

1.

Rashi #1: [When He breaks a nation], He makes others enjoy consolations. So Chazal said (Pesikta d'Rav Kahana 126), He breaks one nation, and delights another that was already stricken. He broke Ashur, and delighted Egypt - "ha'Seitevi Mino Amon." He broke Egypt, and delighted Ashur - "Ashur Erez ba'Levanon."

2.

Rashi #2: This is Tefilah - it helps them.

3.

Ibn Ezra: At a time of breakage, one who is Shu'a to Nefashos (generous) will not help. Such a person is called Sho'a with a Cholem - "Lo Nikar Sho'a."

4.

Malbim: If salvation comes via breakage of death, and he was saved from bitter life to find rest in the grave, only then they are assured to be safe from death and its blow. As long as they are alive, surely death will strike them!
