What is the meaning of "Arazim Lo Amamuhu"?
Rashi: They did not dim its appearance. I.e. there was not one of them more beautiful than him.
Radak: This is like "Kol Sasum Lo Amemucha" (28:3) ? hiding and covering. I.e. the tall cedars, which are in Gan Elokim, do not hide or cover it, for it is over all of them.
Was this only in "Gan Elokim"?
Rashi: It was in the entire world.
Radak: This is an exaggeration ? the Gan about which it says "va'Yita Hashem Elokim Gan b'Eden" (Bereishis 2:8).
Malbim: This refers to the cedars planted from the six days of creation.
What do we learn from "Beroshim Lo Damu El Se'aposav"?
Malbim: Its long branches were greater than Berosh (pine), which is the strongest tree after cedar ? "Heilil Berosh Ki Nafal Erez" (Zecharyah 11:2). Not only were they not like them ? they did not even resemble them.
What are "Armonim"?
Rashi: They are chestnut trees. Radak ? this is like "Luz v'Armon" (Bereishis 30:37).
What do we learn from "Lo Hayu k'Por'osav"?
Malbim: Chestnut trees grow with great beauty. They had a semblance to the thin branches, but they were not [beautiful] like them.
Why does it add "Kol Etz b'Gan Elokim"?
Malbim: Even though Hashem planted in Eden "Kol Etz Nechmad l'Mar'eh" (Bereishis 2:9), and they had the ultimate beauty, they did not resemble its beauty.
Malbim (according to the Nimshal): From Bereishis, there was not a king as powerful and mighty as him. Also its medium and thin branches (his officers, Giborim and Ashirim) surpassed all other kings in their authority, Gevurah and wealth. And not only in this generation ? also the trees now in Gan Elokim 1 , i.e. previous kings about whom they say wonders of their Gevurah, authority and strength, did not resemble him.
I.e. kings who died and are now in Gan Eden. I would have thought that most of the powerful kings are not in Gan Eden, e.g. Nimrod, Kedarla'omer, Pharaoh?! (PF)
