Why does it say (Pesachim 56a) that Chachamim disapproved that he closed the river? Above (verse 3) it says that he consulted with "Sarav", which includes Chachmei Yisrael ? "Sarei Alafim" (17:14) are the Chachamim and Shoftim!

What is the meaning of "va'Yashrem l'Matah Maravah"?

'Rashi', Radak: He directed the water on a straight path, via grooves below [the ground] to the west 1 [of Ir David].

Malbim: Berechas ha'Shelach was to the west of Ir David, like it says in Nechemyah 3:15. (It is not explicit there. ? PF)

Why does it say "va'Yatzlach"? Chachamim did not approve!

Malbim: Hashem wanted to test him, if he will rely on Hashem alone and not seek human strategies. 1

Perhaps Malbim means that Hashem gave him success in everything before this, so he would be tempted to rely on his own strategies and not on Hashem alone.
