Why does the Torah repeat here "Vayishma ha'Cana'ani... ", but does not finish the episode'?

Rashi: To teach us that what they heard was that Aharon died and that the Ananei Kavod had departed 1 - leading them to believe that they were now permitted to attack Yisrael.

Elef ha'Magen: Refer to 33:8:151:1. The Cana'ani thought that now that Aharon had died, the Avodah ceased and Yisrael had lost their Divine protection. 2

Elef ha'Magen: They erred however, in that the primary protection of Yisrael is the Torah.

What is "ba'Negev" referring to?

Rashi (in Vayishlach Bereishis, 35:18): It is referring to Eretz Yisrael, which is in the south (of Aram Naharayim - Rashi). 1

Rashi (21:1) says that "Cana'ani Melech Arad" was Amalek. Why does the Torah refer to them as 'Cana'ani'?

Rashi (in 21:1): Amalek spoke in the language of the Cana'anim to trick Yisrael into believing that they were Cana'anim, and they would Daven to Hashem to defeat the Cana'anim. 1

Targum Yonasan: Because he joined forces with the Cana'ani and became king of Arad. 2 .
