1)

Why does it say "Acharei Kol Zos?"?

1.

'Rashi': The verse complains and laments Yoshiyah. Why was a miracle not done for him, like was done for Chizkiyah "Acharei ha'Devarim veha'Emes ha'Eleh Ba Sancheriv?" (32:1)?

2)

Why was he called Necho?

1.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: He was lame in his legs.

3)

Whom did Necho want to fight?

1.

'Rashi': He wanted to fight Melech Ashur (who conquered Karkemish from Melech Aram ? Radak Melachim II, 23:29). He needed to pass through Eretz Yisrael, for Egypt is to its south, and Ashur is to its north.

4)

Why did Yoshiyah go to greet him?

1.

'Rashi', from Ta'anis 22a: He went to fight him. Yoshiyah expounded "v'Cherev Lo Sa'avor b'Artzechem" (Vayikra 26:6) ? even a sword of Shalom going to fight elsewhere, since we are doing Hashem's will. He did not know that scoffers of his generation served idolatry covertly. Radak (Melachim II, 23:29) - Yirmeyah (2:28) said "Ki Mispar Arecha Hayu Elohecha Yehudah."
