Why does it say "Al Ken"?

1.

Malbim: Man should quarrel for Hashem; He will wage his feud and destroy the land until? All this is the nation's words to the Nevi'im; they prefer that the land be destroyed, and they will not hear the Nevi'im's rebuke.

2)

What is "Te'eval ha'Aretz"?

1.

Rashi: It will be destroyed, and the Evel (mourning) in it will increase.

2.

Radak: Eretz Yisrael will be destroyed and ruined.

3)

What is the meaning of "v'Umlal Kol Yoshev Bah"?

1.

Radak: All who dwell in it will be cut off from it.

4)

Why does it add "b'Chayas ha'Sadeh"?

1.

Radak #1: Since the land will be desolate, people and Behemos will be cut off. Chayas ha'Sadeh does not refer to animals of the Midbar, rather, those that lives in settled areas, with people. They are called Chayah, like "Zos ha'Chayah Asher Tochelu" (Vayikra 11:2).

2.

Radak #2: Chayas ha'Sadeh includes also animals of the Midbar. They come to settled areas that became desolate only if some settlement remains ? "v'Rabah Alecha Chayas ha'Sadeh" (Shemos 23:29).

3.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: Also Chayos and birds will be cut off.

4.

Malbim: Even though they do not speak, they will be cut off.

5)

Why does it add "uv'Of ha'Shamayim"?

1.

Radak #1: Most birds do not dwell in the Midbar, only in settled areas, where they find seeds, Peros and blossoming trees.

2.

Radak #2: This is an exaggeration [of how great the desolation will be]. Also in Yirmeyah, "me'Of ha'Shamayim v'Ad Behemah Nadedu Halachu 1 " (9:9) can be understood as an exaggeration, or like my first Perush (refer to 4:3:5:1).

1

Radak citing Shabbos 145b: For 52 years no man passed in Yehudah; the Gematriya of "Behemah" (52) hints to this. For seven years, "Gafris va'Melach Sereifah Chol Artzah" (Devarim 29:22) was fulfilled.

6)

Why does it say "Ye'asefu"?

1.

Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: They will become few, due to their liability. This is an expression of eradication, like "Asof Asifem" (Yirmeyah 8:13).
