How much is 20 Gerah?
Rashi: It is 20 Ma'in.
The Torah already said "Esrim Gerah ha'Shekel" (Shemos 30:13)!
Malbim: Here this teaches that the king must fix coinage, lest there be forgery and Ona'ah.
Why does it say "Esrim Shekalim Chamishah v'Esrim Shekalim Asarah va'Chamishah Shekel ha'Maneh Yihyeh Lachem"? This adds to 60 Shekalim (240 Dinarim). A Maneh is 100 Dinarim!
Bava Basra 90a: This teaches three things. (a) The Maneh of Hekdesh is double a normal Maneh. (b) We may increase measures, but no more than a sixth (a double Maneh should be 200 Dinarim, and the verse considers it 240 1 ). (c) We permit an outer sixth (the increase (40) is a sixth of the total new measure (240), which equals a fifth of the old measure (200)).
Malbim: Yechezkel enacted that the Nasi will take one part in 60 ? a Shekel from a Maneh.
Malbim explains that these are gold [Dinarim]. What is his source? "Esrim Gerah ha'Shekel" (Shemos 30:13) refers to silver! Perhaps he teaches that "Esrim Shekalim?" applies also to gold. (PF)
The three amounts add to 60 Shekalim. Why did the verse not simply say 60?
Rashi: The verse splits it in three, to command to make three weights ? (a) a third of a [Kadosh] Maneh (20 Shekalim), (b) a quarter Maneh 1 (15); (c) the Chulin Maneh, before they added to it (25 Shekalim). Targum Yonasan is like this. Radak ? also "Sheloshes Manim Zahav" (Melachim I, 10:17), "v'Chesef Manim Alpayim" (Nechemyah 7:70) are Manim of 60 Shekalim.
Malbim: The verse commands to make coins of 20 Shekalim, 25, 10 and five, so one who has a Maneh and wants to exchange it for big or small coins, he will be able to do so in many ways. This benefits the country!
The Targum and Rashi explain Asarah va'Chamishah to be a weight of 15. Malbim explains that this refers to a coin of 10, and a coin of five. (PF)
