Where is "mi'Tamar"?

1.

Rashi, Targum Yonasan: It is from Yericho 1 , Ir ha'Tamarim.

2.

Malbim: It says "v'Yarshu ha'Negev Es Har Esav" (Ovadyah 1:19). Eretz Se'ir, which is south of Eretz Yisrael, will enter the border of the land. Chazal received that Eretz Edom, Amon and Mo'av will be in Eretz Yisrael ? they are Kini, Kenizi and Kadmoni that Hashem promised to Avraham (Bereishis 15:19); all are south of Eretz Yisrael 2 . "V'Galus Yerushalayim Asher bi'Sfarad Yirshu Es Arei ha'Negev" (Ovadyah 1:20). If so, we cannot say that Tamar is Yericho, and Mei Merivos Kadesh is Midbar Tzin (for the border will be far south of these)! Rather, Tamar is Chatzetzon Tamar, and Mei Merivos Kadesh is Lifnei Har Se'ir, and Amon and Mo'av are south of them ? "va'Yavo'u El? Kadesh va'Yaku? v'Gam Es ha'Emori ha'Yoshev b'Chatzetzon Tamar" (Bereishis 14:7). The southern border will widen to south of Eretz Se'ir, Amon and Mo'av, until the Midbar where Yisrael went. It continues from Chatzetzon Tamar until Mei Merivos Kadesh, and from there to Nachal Mitzrayim to Yam ha'Gadol. All this is south of the first border.

1

Five Shevatim will receive south of Yerushalayim ? 375 Mil from north to south. How can Yericho be on the southern border? Yericho was 10 Parsa'os (40 Mil) from Yerushalayim (Yuma 39b)! (PF)

2

Certainly, the parts of Amon and Mo'av that Sichon and Og conquered [and Yisrael took them from Sichon and Og] were east of Eretz Yisrael. Rashi (Bamidbar 21:13) implies that Mo'av is southeast of Eretz Yisrael, and Ramban (Bereishis 32:2) implies so about Amon. Perhaps initially Amon and/or Mo'av owned land in two places that were not connected. (PF)

Where is "Mei Merivos Kadesh"?

1.

Rashi: It is Midbar Tzin 1 .

1

Refer to 47:19:1:2.

3)

What do we learn from "Nachalah El ha'Yam ha'Gadol"?

1.

Rashi: From there the border goes to Nachal Mitzrayim, and falls to Yam ha'Gadol in the southeast corner. And so Moshe gave the southern border "mi'Midbar Tzin Al Yedei Edom? me'Atzmon Nachlah Mitzrayim v'Hayu Sotze'osav ha'Yamah" (Bamidbar 34:3, 5). "Nachalah" here is like l'Nachal 1 .

2.

Targum Yonasan: Nachalah is an expression of inheritance; he translated Achsana. Rashi ? I would have said that this is a mistake, and Yonason did not translate so, rather, errant Kara'ites, if not that here the last syllable of Nachalah is accented, and in "Nachlah Mitzrayim" (Bamidbar 34:5) the first syllable is accented. (This supports Targum Yonasan, that here does not refer to a river.)

1

Radak: "Nachalah" here is like Nachal. The Hei at the end is extra, even though the last syllable is accented.

4)

What do we learn from "v'Es Pe'as Teimanah Negbah"?

1.

Malbim: The border will expand to the south.
