What is the meaning of "v'Yaker"?

1.

Rashi: Very dear [is redemption, that one will not see Gehinom - verse 10].

2.

Rashi: It is an expression of withholding, like "Okir Enosh mi'Paz" (Yeshayah 13:12), "v'Halachti Imachem ba'Chamas Keri" (Vayikra 26:28). I.e. will he refrain from redeeming their souls?!

3.

Radak: [Redemption] is not found. The same applies to "u'Devar Hashem Hayah Yakar ba'Yamim ha'Hem" (Shmuel I, 3:1) - Nevu'ah was not found.

4.

Malbim: Since one would surely redeem his body, which is temporary, from death, all the more so he should redeem his eternal Nefesh from eternal death! Why do so many commoners not do so?

2)

Why does it say "v'Chadal l'Olam"?

1.

Radak (9-10): This is connected to the coming verse. It is impossible that one will live la'Netzach 1 and not see Shachas (the grave). It does not cross the Ashir's mind.

2.

Malbim: Refer to 49:9:1:4.

1

Refer to 49:10:1:2 and the note there.
