What is "mi'Ma'al mi'Le'umas ha'Beten"?

Rashi: It is on the other side (outside) of the cap, at its bottom, where it is stuck to the half-ball below.

Gra: It is in line with the middle of the hollow of the Beten.

Malbim: (The crown consisted of two Gulos, i.e. half-balls.) This teaches where the top one began. It was after two Amos (the height of the lower Gulah).

How were the pomegranates held up?

Rashi (18, 20): They were inserted in two rows of chains that went around the crowns on the pillars.

Gra (18): Each hung from a chain.

Does the verse mean that there were 200 pomegranates? Verse 42 says that there were 400. Divrei ha'Yamim II, 3:16 says that there were 100 in the chains. Yirmeyah 52:23 says that there were 96 Ruchah, and in all, 100 on the Sevachah!

Radak: Yes, our verse counts the pomegranates (not the rows) on each cap on each pillar. There were 400 in all on both pillars. There were 100 in each row. Yirmeyah teaches that 96 were on one side, and four on the other side (in one row).

Radak (Divrei ha'Yamim II, 4:13): There were 100 fixed in the chains, in addition to 400 on the Sevachah 1 .

Malbim: There were 400 in all on both pillars. There were 100 in each row. Yirmeyah teaches that there were 24 in each direction, and one in between each two adjacent directions.

In Yirmeyah, it says that there were 100 on the Sevachah! Perhaps it means on each of the four rows on the Sevachah, like in Radak's other answer. (PF)

Why does it teach only about the second crown?

1.

Rashi: The verse is abbreviated. It means that there were 200 on the first, and also on the second.

2.

Malbim: Only the second (bottom part of the crown was covered via the pomegranates. The first (top) was covered via the cap.
