Where did the Keruvim stand?

1.

Rashi: They stood on the ground. One was north of the Aron, and one was to the south ('Rashi' Divrei ha'Yamim II, 3:13 - in the west of Kodesh ha'Kodoshim). They cover the Aron and its staves. 1

Rashi: The length of the Aron was along the width of the Bayis. The poles stuck out in the opening of the Devir, in the Paroches opposite the opening. The staves were at the ends of the length of the Aron, so two Leviyim could enter in between (side by side) when they carried it in the Midbar.
