Radak #1 (from Sanhedrin 92b): Hashem showed this to him for a Mashal Bnei Yisrael will leave Galus; they are like dry bones in Galus.

Radak #2: Hashem showed him that in the future, the dead of Yisrael will be revived at the time of salvation, so also they will see it 3 .

Maharsha (92b): They wanted to show that just like insects are short-lived, because they have no bones, also our dry bones will never be revived.

Ta'anis 30b: Everyone who mourns over Yerushalayim will merit to see its Simchah. Ritva (30b) ? they will be revived early, to see it rebuilt. Those who did not mourn over it, they can be revived in the Techiyas ha'Mesim after Yemos ha'Mashi'ach.

Yehoshua says they sang: "Hashem Memis u'Mechayeh Morid She'ol va'Ya'al.." R. Eliezer ben R. Yosi ha'Galili says, they went to Eretz Yisrael, married women and fathered children. R. Yehudah ben Beseira: I descend from them. I have Tefilin from them!

Radak citing Sanhedrin 92b #2: R. Yehudah says, it was only a parable. Malbim ? even this opinion holds that what he saw, it is as if it occurred in practice. He sees the future, for it is present.
