1)

Rashi (to 7:3) implies that in the last five Makos, Hashem hardened Pharaoh's heart. But these verses (9:34-35) sound like Pharaoh hardened his own heart?

1.

Gur Aryeh (to 7:3): After Makas Barad, at first, Pharaoh hardened his own heart (9:34-35). 1 Then, Hashem also hardened it as well (see the next verse, 10:1). 2 Refer to 7:3:1.4:1.

1

Gur Aryeh (ibid.): The cessation of Barad inspired less awe of Hashem, than that of the other Makos; see 9:30:1.1:1.

2

Gur Aryeh (ibid.): Otherwise, Pharaoh might well have freed them upon being warned about the Arbeh - and even Pharaoh's own servants demanded that he do so.
