What do we learn from "Elokim Moshiv Yechidim Baysah [Motzi Asirim b'Kosharos]"?

1.

Sotah 2a: Matchmaking is as difficult as splitting the Yam Suf 1 .

2.

Rashi: Yisrael were scattered; Hashem gathered each man from where he was cast, and settled them in

a complete house and a full gathering.

1

Radak #1: If a man and his wife did not have children, Hashem makes them a house, i.e. sons and daughters - "va'Ya'as Lahem Batim" (Shemos 1:21). It says also "Moshivi Akeres ha'Bayis Em ha'Banim Semechah" (below, 113:9). Yisrael were like individuals; Hashem saved them from the enemy, blessed them and made them multiply.

2

Radak #2: He hid them. This is like "va'Yastirem Hashem" regarding Yirmeyah (36:26).

3

Malbim: When the enemy came to the end of Ever ha'Yarden, those who dwelled in alone in their Chatzeros and open cities (without a wall) left their dwellings amidst fear. Now Hashem settles the individuals to return to their houses, even though they dwell alone, spread out in villages.

Why does it say "Motzi Asirim b'Kosharos"?

1.

Rashi (from Mechilta Bo 16): Hashem took Yisrael out of Egypt in a month (Nisan) that is Kosher (proper) for traveling - it is not too sunny, and not too cold.

2.

Radak: Those who were fettered in iron chains, he takes them out of their fetters, like the captives from Kush and Egypt in Ashur's camp. Yeshayah said about them "ba'Zikim Ya'avoru" (45:14). And also captives from Yehudah [He freed; Sancheriv had come] "Al Kol Arei Yehudah ha'Betzuros va'Yispesem" (ibid., 36:1). "Kosharos" are chains and fetters; the Kaf is like a Kuf. They are pronounced from the same place (the palate, therefore they are interchangeable). Similarly "Mi Tiken Es Ru'ach Hashem" (ibid. 40:13, with a Kaf), is like "Tiken Meshalim" (Koheles 12:9, with a Kuf).

3.

Malbim: Now Hashem also takes out those fettered in chains, i.e. the enemy took them captive and bound them.

3)

Who are "Sorerim"?

1.

Rashi: Egypt.

2.

Radak: Melech Ashur and his legions.

3.

Malbim: The enemy.

4)

Why does it say "Shachnu Tzechichah"?

1.

Rashi: Their land was left barren and thirsty.

2.

Radak: The captives went out to satiation and salvation, and the Sorerim (wayward) dwelled in a thirsty place. I.e. it is as if they died of thirst; they died without sword or spear.

3.

Malbim: Bnei Yisrael will not dwell in Midbaros and dry places to hide from the enemy; they will dwell in their houses. Now, only the Sorerim (enemy) will dwell in dry deserts.
