What is the meaning of "Al Tifge'i"?

1.

Rashi: Do not insist [try to dissuade me]. If one comes to convert, we inform him of some punishments, so if he will retract, he will retract 1 (Yevamos 47b). From Rus' words, we infer what Naomi had told her (see the coming Derashos).

2.

Vilna Gaon: Do not cause me to sin. You want to distance me from you, since you have many punishment - four Misos Beis Din

1

Rashi (47b): I.e. we are not concerned. (Since he did not convert yet, this is not a problem. It would be problematic if he converted, and wanted to retract after learning punishment! - PF)

2)

What is the significance of "Le'azvech Lashuv me'Acharayich"?

1.

Malbim: I will not abandon you, for I do not want to separate from you, and not even to return from after you. Even if I must abandon you, I will not return to Eretz Mo'av. Still I will go to Eretz Yehudah and convert there via others; I prefer to convert via you.

3)

Why did she say "where you go, I will go"?

1.

Rashi citing Yevamos 47b: Naomi had told her, on Shabbos we may not leave the Techum (a Mil around the city).

2.

Vilna Gaon: Do not tell me to cease following you. A Mashal for this is two people going on the road. One does not want his colleague to go with him. His colleague can tell him, if you do not want me to go genuinely with you, I can distance from you. So Rus told her. I can distance from you, and I will come to the same place after you.

3.

Malbim: Do not think that the purpose of my going is unlike yours. You go there due to your creed, in order to fulfill Mitzvos that depend on the land. Do not think that I go for some benefit. My purpose is the same as yours!

4.

Malbim (17): I will go in the good path of the Torah.

4)

Why did she say "where you spend the night, I will lodge"?

1.

Rashi citing Yevamos 47b: Naomi had told her, we may not be secluded with men.

2.

Malbim: Do not think that I go for a temporary success, e.g. to marry a rich man. Where you lodge, I will lodge, like a stranger in the land. Tzadikim considered this world like a hotel for guests.

5)

Why did she say "your nation is my nation"?

1.

Rashi citing Yevamos 47b: Naomi had told her, we are commanded to keep 613 Mitzvos!

2.

Malbim: I already adopted the Torah of your G-d and customs of your nation; I am like a member of your nation.

6)

Why did she add "your G-d is my G-d"?

1.

Rashi citing Yevamos 47b: Naomi had told her, idolatry is forbidden to us.

2.

Malbim: Refer to 1:16:5:2.
