What is "Am ha'Aretz"?
Radak: They are Bnei ha'Golah.
Why does it say "El Admas Yisrael"?
Radak: This is like Al Admes Yisrael, i.e. the residents of Yerushalayim and those who dwell on the land of Yisrael..
Why does it say "Lema'an [Tesham Artzah]"?
Malbim: This is why their land will be desolate. Had they made Shalom with (surrendered to) Nebuchadnetzar and not fought him, there would be no siege, and he would not destroy their land.
What is the grammatical form of "Tesham"?
Radak: The root is Yasham (to be desolate). The same applies to "veha'Bamos Teishamnah" (6:6).
What is "Artzah"?
Radak: This refers to Yerushalayim.
What is "mi'Melo'ah"?
Rashi: From its wealth.
Radak: From what it was full of ? a nation and property.
What do we learn from "me'Chamas Kol ha'Yoshevim Bah"?
Rashi: In its residents' sin of theft. Malbim ? due to this, I will put in their hearts to fight Nebuchadnetzar, and their land will be destroyed. The Churban is (a) a punishment for theft in the past, and (b) Via destruction of the settled cities, "you will know that I am Hashem" (20), and believed in Him, His Hashgachah, reward and punishment.
